Foundation of the Rashtrakuta Empire
Around 753 CE, the Rashtrakuta ruler Dantidurga overthrew Chalukya supremacy in the Deccan and established Rashtrakuta imperial power. His successor Krishna I consolidated the new dynasty and sponsored the great Kailasa rock-cut temple at Ellora.
