Nobel Prize for Tagore
Rabindranath Tagore received the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the first Asian Nobel laureate. The Swedish Academy recognised the literary quality of his verse, much of which had reached international readers through Tagore's English renderings associated with *Gitanjali*.
