First Five-Year Plan
India's First Five-Year Plan covered 1951–56 and gave high priority to agriculture, irrigation and power, alongside transport, social services and rehabilitation needs in the young republic. It established national economic planning as a central instrument of development policy; the stronger emphasis on heavy industry is associated with the Second Five-Year Plan.
