Launch of Aryabhata
Aryabhata, India's first satellite, was designed and fabricated in India and launched on 19 April 1975 by a Soviet Kosmos-3M/C-1 Intercosmos rocket from Kapustin Yar. The programme was developed under the leadership of U. R. Rao and marked India's entry into indigenous satellite engineering.
