Assassination of Rajiv Gandhi
Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated at an election meeting in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, on 21 May 1991 by a suicide bomber, Thenmozhi Rajaratnam, known as Dhanu, as part of an LTTE conspiracy. The blast also killed numerous other people at the site.
