Public Internet Service Begins in India
In August 1995, Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) launched commercial public Internet access in India, opening dial-up Internet services to ordinary subscribers and businesses. The launch marked the beginning of mass public Internet connectivity in the country, although academic and research networks had used computer networking earlier.
