Gujarat Earthquake
On 26 January 2001, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the Kutch region of Gujarat, causing catastrophic destruction in Bhuj and many surrounding towns and villages. The disaster killed many thousands of people, injured large numbers and caused extensive housing and infrastructure losses.
