NITI Aayog Replaces Planning Commission
The Union Cabinet constituted the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) on 1 January 2015, replacing the Planning Commission as the central government's apex policy think tank. Its mandate emphasised strategic policy advice and cooperative federalism through institutional participation by state and Union Territory governments.
