Goods and Services Tax Is Rolled Out
India's Goods and Services Tax came into force on 1 July 2017, replacing many central and state indirect taxes with a dual GST framework administered jointly by the Union and states. The GST Council became the principal federal forum for recommending rates, exemptions and major design changes within the system.
