Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill Is Passed by Parliament

After years of parliamentary debate and a major civil-society anti-corruption movement associated prominently with Anna Hazare, the Rajya Sabha passed the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill on 17 December 2013 and the Lok Sabha approved it on 18 December. Presidential assent followed on 1 January 2014.
