Ascension of Harsha (Harshavardhana)

Harshavardhana of the Pushyabhuti (Vardhana) dynasty came to power in 606 CE at Thanesar and later made Kannauj the principal centre of his kingdom. His reign reunited substantial parts of northern India, and the Chinese pilgrim Xuanzang later left an important account of his court and realm.
