First Battle of Panipat
On 21 April 1526, Babur defeated and killed Sultan Ibrahim Lodi at Panipat in present-day Haryana. Babur's field artillery, cart defences, cavalry tactics and the political weakness of the Lodi regime contributed to the victory, which opened the way for the establishment of Mughal rule in northern India.
