The Carnatic Wars
Between 1746 and 1763, three Carnatic Wars linked European imperial rivalry with succession disputes and regional politics in southern India. British and French companies intervened on competing sides; the British military victory at Wandiwash and the fall of Pondicherry curtailed French political ambitions, although French commercial settlements continued.
