Battle of Colachel
In 1741, Travancore forces under Marthanda Varma defeated the Dutch East India Company at Colachel. The battle sharply weakened Dutch political and military influence in southern Kerala; captured Dutch officer Eustachius De Lannoy later entered Travancore service and helped modernise its forces.
