Battle of Plassey
On 23 June 1757, East India Company forces under Robert Clive defeated Siraj-ud-Daulah at Plassey after a conspiracy in which Mir Jafar and other senior figures withheld effective support from the Nawab. The result gave the Company decisive influence over Bengal's government and greatly increased its political power.
