Third Battle of Panipat
On 14 January 1761, the army of Ahmad Shah Durrani defeated the Maratha force commanded by Sadashivrao Bhau at Panipat. The battle inflicted catastrophic losses on the Maratha side and temporarily checked its northward expansion, but Maratha political power later recovered in much of the subcontinent.
