Demand for Swaraj
At the 1906 Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress, president Dadabhai Naoroji placed 'Swaraj' or self-government at the centre of the Congress programme, alongside swadeshi, boycott and national education. At this stage, Swaraj was generally articulated in the language of self-government rather than the complete independence adopted by the Congress in 1929.
