Ahmedabad Mill Strike

In February–March 1918, Ahmedabad textile workers protested the withdrawal of plague bonuses and sought higher wages amid wartime inflation. Gandhi, Anasuya Sarabhai, Vallabhbhai Patel and other advisers supported the workers during the dispute. Gandhi fasted from 15 to 18 March as the conflict moved toward settlement and arbitration, which resulted in a 35 per cent wage increase for the workers.
