Assassination of J.P. Saunders
In December 1928, members of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association planned to kill police superintendent James A. Scott in retaliation for the lathi charge in which Lala Lajpat Rai had been injured. In a case of mistaken identity, Bhagat Singh and his comrades shot assistant superintendent J. P. Saunders instead and escaped from Lahore.
