The Poona Pact
The Poona Pact of 24 September 1932 replaced the Communal Award's separate electorates for the Depressed Classes with reserved seats elected through a joint electorate, while increasing the number of reserved seats. The agreement was negotiated by B. R. Ambedkar and other representatives with caste-Hindu leaders under the intense pressure created by Gandhi's fast in Yerwada prison.
