Formation of the Forward Bloc
After resigning the Congress presidency in 1939 following a prolonged conflict with the Working Committee and Gandhi's supporters, Subhas Chandra Bose launched the Forward Bloc as a left-nationalist grouping within the Congress. It sought to unite radical anti-colonial forces around a more immediate struggle against British rule.
