Cripps Mission
In March–April 1942, the British War Cabinet sent Stafford Cripps to India with proposals for a post-war Indian Union with Dominion status and a constitution-making body, while allowing provinces a route to remain outside the proposed Union. The Congress, Muslim League and other political groups rejected the scheme for different reasons, and the mission ended without agreement.
