Sino-Indian War
In October–November 1962, India and China fought a short border war in the western sector around Ladakh/Aksai Chin and in the eastern North-East Frontier Agency. Chinese forces inflicted major defeats on Indian positions before Beijing declared a unilateral ceasefire. China withdrew substantially in the eastern sector but retained control of Aksai Chin, which it had already been administering before the war and which India continued to claim.
