Bangladesh Liberation War and Indo-Pakistani War of 1971
The Bangladesh liberation struggle began in 1971 after the Pakistan Army's crackdown in East Pakistan, producing mass killing, displacement and a huge refugee flow into India. India supported the Mukti Bahini and entered direct war with Pakistan after Pakistani air strikes on 3 December. On 16 December, Pakistan's Eastern Command surrendered at Dhaka to the joint Indian and Bangladeshi command, securing the independence of Bangladesh.
