Second Indo-Pakistani War
The 1965 India–Pakistan war escalated after Pakistan's Operation Gibraltar sent infiltrators into Jammu and Kashmir and fighting expanded across the international border. A UN-backed ceasefire took effect in September 1965. Under the Tashkent Declaration of 10 January 1966, Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and President Ayub Khan agreed to withdraw forces to the positions they had held before 5 August 1965.
