Kesavananda Bharati Judgment

On 24 April 1973, a thirteen-judge bench of the Supreme Court decided *Kesavananda Bharati v. State of Kerala* by a narrow majority. The Court held that Parliament's constitutional-amendment power is broad but cannot be used to destroy the Constitution's 'basic structure', establishing one of the central doctrines of Indian constitutional law.
