Pokhran-II (Operation Shakti)

India conducted five underground nuclear tests at the Pokhran range in Rajasthan on 11 and 13 May 1998 under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The programme's scientific leadership included R. Chidambaram of the atomic-energy establishment and A. P. J. Abdul Kalam of DRDO, and the tests established India's demonstrated nuclear-weapons capability.
