VB–G RAM G Act Replaces MGNREGA as India’s Rural Employment-Guarantee Law

On 1 July 2026, the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 came into force across rural India, replacing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005, which was repealed on the same date. The new framework retained a statutory rural-employment guarantee while increasing the entitlement from 100 to 125 days of unskilled wage work for eligible rural households and carrying ongoing works and job-card continuity into the new scheme.
