India Flags Off Its First Hydrogen-Powered Train

On 17 July 2026, Indian Railways flagged off India’s first hydrogen-powered passenger train on the Jind–Sonipat section in Haryana. Designed, engineered and integrated in India, the ten-coach hydrogen fuel-cell train generated electricity onboard from hydrogen and oxygen, emitting water vapour at the point of use and operating with dedicated hydrogen storage and refuelling infrastructure at Jind. The launch marked India’s first operational demonstration of hydrogen propulsion on the national rail network.
