Tribunals Reforms Act, 2026 Establishes the National Tribunals Commission

On 25 August 2026, the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2026 came into force, replacing the 2021 framework and establishing a National Tribunals Commission. The judiciary-led Commission was assigned a central role in selecting tribunal chairpersons and members, reviewing tribunal performance, overseeing inquiries into complaints, and maintaining a National Tribunals Data Grid. The reform followed Supreme Court judgments concerning tribunal independence and reduced the Union executive’s direct role in core tribunal-administration functions.
