India Completes Its Eastern–Western Dedicated Freight Corridor Network

On 8 September 2026, the final three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor were commissioned, making the full Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridor network operational. The two corridors together span about 2,843 route kilometres, linking major northern and eastern freight routes with the western port system, including Jawaharlal Nehru Port. Completion ended a multi-decade buildout of India’s dedicated high-capacity freight-rail backbone.
