Ladakh High Court Bench Regulation Comes into Force

On 5 September 2026, the Union Territory of Ladakh (Sitting of Bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in Ladakh) Regulation, 2026 came into force, creating the legal basis for judges and division courts of the common High Court to sit within Ladakh. The principal seat remained unchanged, while the Chief Justice could designate a sitting place in Ladakh with the Lieutenant Governor’s approval; Leh was subsequently designated on 5 October. The measure created a local High Court sitting mechanism for litigants in the Union Territory.
