An alliance of Deccan sultanates defeated Vijayanagara forces under Aliya Rama Raya near Talikota/Rakshasi-Tangadi. The capital was subsequently sacked, sharply weakening Vijayanagara, although the empire continued under the Aravidu dynasty.
