Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha Insurance Reforms Come into Force

On 5 February 2026, most provisions of the Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (Amendment of Insurance Laws) Act, 2025 came into force. The legislation amended India’s principal insurance statutes, raised the statutory foreign-investment ceiling in Indian insurance companies from 74% to 100%, altered rules governing insurance intermediaries and share transfers, reduced capital requirements for foreign reinsurance branches, and strengthened parts of the policyholder-protection and regulatory framework. Section 25 was excluded from the commencement notification, while consequential regulatory and exchange-control changes continued later in 2026.
