India and the United States Announce Framework for an Interim Trade Agreement

On 6–7 February 2026, India and the United States announced a framework for an Interim Agreement on reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade while continuing negotiations toward a broader Bilateral Trade Agreement. Under the framework, the United States said it would apply an 18% reciprocal tariff rate to originating Indian goods and set out possible further tariff relief subject to successful conclusion of the interim agreement; India committed to tariff reductions across a range of US industrial and agricultural products. Subsequent official negotiating rounds showed that the February announcement was a framework rather than a completed trade agreement, with the detailed interim pact still under negotiation.
